Teacher __________ Week!

So, it is supposed to be teacher appreciation week this week. My class is clueless, and I don't think it is very kosher to announce to them, 'Hey this week is a week to appreciate me, shower me with gifts, and act like human beings for 5 days in a row!". Rather, the PTSA generously brought the teachers a huge sweet roll and also gave us a gift card to Wal-Mart. It was greatly appreciated! It is this time every year that I get homesick for the Alpine School District. Parents and students were more than willing to send a note of thanks. I know it sounds lame, but having a parent or student sincerely express their appreciation means a lot to me (and I think all teachers would agree on that point). Teaching really is a thankless job. In fact, I had a student basically tell me that I was crappy teacher today. That sure makes Teacher Appreciation Week one to remember...

So, um, yeah. Teacher Appreciation Week...about that. If I could, I would take a new job in a new profession tomorrow. It is becoming more and more obvious that being an effective and dedicated educator may not be something I am able to do. That is hard and almost a little embarrassing to admit. I mean, after all, I am like a 5th generation teacher- you think it would be in my blood to be effective, able, and engrossed in teaching.

However, (and this has been a reoccurring theme on my blog for far too long) I am admittedly not any of those things. I really thought this was the year that it was going to be great. It isn't. I have big plans for next year...they will suck too. I need to be somewhere where I simply come up with the "good ideas" and then turn it over to someone who really knows what they are doing.

So, on this, the week of Teacher Appreciation...is there anyone out there who is looking for a new employee? I won't come cheap (I would owe the district a LOT of money if I leave before 3 years from now), but I will come! If you have something for me...let me know, I will consider just about anything.

Later...

  1. Well I appreciate you. Sorry your kids think you are a crappy teacher but I've heard your teaching and I think otherwise. You can't leave now - lol, but if you really feel you must, then you gotta do what you gotta do. Hang in there though and hopefully it will get better. Just think in a few short weeks - summer vacation starts and this year you won't be in classes over the summer so that should make a difference and allow you to regather yourself for the upcoming school year - Just breathe and it will all work out - E :)
