You Want Me To WHAT In 3 Weeks????

Well, today I learned some rather stressful news. The high school here has asked me to help with the music for the musical they are doing- School House Rocks (Jr. Edition). So I show up at practice today and finally got all the materials I will need to be in charge of the music. Then I find out that they are performing this musical in 3 weeks! 18 days TOTAL to get an entire production ready to go. WOW! It can be done, I know that. But Wow! The kids are going to have to eat, breathe, sleep, and even dream the music. She was able to get them rehearsal CD's. So that should really help. It was disappointing in how few of the older kids wanted to participate. Most of the kids in the show are in 8th grade or younger. It is going to be fun, and simply another adventure to share with in my crazy life. (What's even MORE weird is that I have taught almost all the kids that are in the play this year!)

I went to tutoring today. That was an exciting adventure. I show up and the student had an attitude. When I tried to get the student to work, the student told me that the work could be done when I was gone and to do something else. I told the student ok, but it never is. The comment that came out as the discussion continued was, "And you tell me that I'm immature." That was when I stood up and walked out. I don't need that garbage, especially when I have TONS of things that I need and want to do. I felt bad about leaving knowing that the grandmother will be left dealing all the problems from that.

School went ok. It was a better day than most others. Mrs. E joined us for writing again. That was a blast. She is such a great experience for my kids. And I am starting to hear from parents how much their kids talk about that being their favorite part of the school day. Yea for the author! She IS pretty amazing. I am excited to host her book in November. You'll have to stop by and check it out, ask questions, and such!

Well, I think that has sufficiently covered my day...Oh wait. We put up our inflatable pumpkins and real pumpkins all over the yard. It turned out good. It's weird to have grass. We didn't last year! Yea us.

Later...

P.S. My student that I tutor just called and apologized for being disrepsectful. Good for that student. Going back Thursday! I guess we will see how it goes.

What to Say, What to Say...

I hope this made you laugh. I thought it was pretty funny! You never know what you are going to get when you open an e-mail from friends. This one is classic.
Today was pretty busy, But I enjoyed it.
School went really well. My students were able to go most of the morning without falling apart. I know that if I keep calm and remind them frequently of my expectations, that they will come along okay. I am excited about this year. We are really going to have a blast.
After school I came home and was on my way to tutoring when I got an urgent call from a member of our ward needing a priesthood blessing. I grabbed a counselor and was able to preform a wonderful service.Dropped my counselor off at the high school.
Headed to tutoring. Didn't exactly get a lot of assignment done, but was able to contact someone about the mix-up with his on-line high school and work to get all the issues resolved.
Ran home and got here just in time for a voice lesson. It went well. I am helping one of my voice students get ready for the local queen pageant. It was fun and frustrating. The person in charge of the pageant is giving the contestants 2-2 1/2 minutes for their talent. That is crazy. You can't do a whole lot of anything in that amount of time. So we used my movie software to edit the song to the right length. I am hoping we can really get this pulled together. I guess I know we can!

And that brings me to right now. My wife just came home from her Scrapbooking Night. She is in charge and does it monthly at our ward building. I love it because I get to spend time with my kids. Tonight wasn't as planned with my voice student staying until 9pm, but I am happy to help. My kids also enjoy the mom and came. She was really cute with my kids as they showed her everything we owed (Ok, not really, but it felt like it!).
I hope that tomorrow's half day is great. I love that our Friday's are halfdays. It is also picture day. That should be all-sorts of exciting!
Later...
P.S. My daughter seems to be finding friends at school. I want her to have a great year. We found out today that she didn't qualify for all-day kindergarten. I am thankful in the end for that. She enjoys coming home and being with her mom.

Holy Crap I Have A Lot of Crap!

So, after spending 8 hours in my classroom (this being the first time this summer due to CORE Academy- and that stinks because I usually put in a bout 40 hours over the summer) I can honestly say that about all I accomplished was moving crap from one pile to another! I sat down after 5 hours of "cleaning and organizing" and was pondering when the custodian walked by and laughed at me. I guess I looked confused and tired. We talked for about an hour. We have a great custodian in our school. He is quick to help when ever you need it. I appreciate that A LOT!
I guess it wasn't really that bad. I did haul a bunch of old resources to the garbage and de-cluttered a few areas of my room. That is my mission. I want to get the room cleaned up and put in order and THEN I will be able to sit down and get my first few days charted out.

Unfortunately I have a church activity tomorrow night I need to attend, and then Wednesday I have an all day math training with the district. Now, I don't know how many of you readers are teachers nor how far you are from your D.O., but I am 90 miles from my District Office and so when they call these meetings, it can be frustrating in that some meetings don't even last the time it takes to get there. Oh well, that is a whole other soap box to stand on some other time.

Well, it is getting late. I have tutoring in the morning and then another day of moving my crap around in my room in hopes that it will magically find a desirable location in which to live.

I know, wishful thinking...

Finally, A Day Of My Own

Ahhh,
That is the word of the day today. I have had a relaxing and enjoyable day. I made it to my tutoring gig around 9am. Found out that I am going to be tutoring in a lot more than just math! I spent about 1.5 hours getting him set up with assignments and will be returning again tomorrow to check his work and set him up with more work. Then I was able to work in the yard, help my mom make an invitation for her counsins reunion, and went shopping. Now I am sitting here trying to think of something to tell that will entertain you.

Well, I really can't. So I know that this is a short, boring post, but I wanted to check-in with everyone today.

Oh, I guess I could tell you that I got an e-mail for the CORE Academy asking me to teach the presentation before mine in Logan. I told them that I really didn't want to teach for 5 hours straight. So I would rather not. I haven't heard back, so I assume that they know I am not doing it. They tried to use the "You owe us one since we didn't get mad about the books and dice you forgot".

Speaking of which, I guess I do have an entertaining story to share. I last left you with the knowledge that my books had been shipped, and that they were in Spanish Fork. At least that is what the confirmation results showed. I even called the post office, but they were of little help (which is kind of typical of most post offices). I got to the school and Ami, the assistant was on her phone outside. She told me they hadn't shown up yet. I went ahead and set up for my presentation. Had lunch with Allisha and the kids. Still no box. I went and talked to the school office staff. They said the mail is rarely later than 1:30. My presentations start at 1:20. I just know that with my luck the post truck will go up in flames and my items will be lost forever. Right on the dot at 1:20 I start my presentation. I had told my wife if they came to count out the number I needed and bring them in to me. I kept looking at my watch. it was 1:35 and still no wife or box. I am starting to get VERY worried, almost to the point of NOT being able to focus super well on my presentation.

To Be Continued...
