A Fun Friday and a Relaxing Saturday!

Friday started out as a focused work day. I headed to school after having breakfast with the kids and doing a few chores around the house. After arriving in my classroom, I set to work working on Back-2-School packets for the August 18th parent meetings (this is the first time since I have been at this school that Back-2-School has been BEFORE school starts. I am liking the idea a lot). Since my brain was in high-gear, I took some time to go over the student council application and process that I have been using over the past few years. I had noted at the end of the school year last year items that I wanted changed or more emphasis placed on. I made my list, altered the applications and then headed down to get approval from my administrator. I went over all my ideas, and with many helpful suggestions from my boss, it was decided that we would present this information for the faculty and also get their feedback. I am truly excited for the changes this year.

After visiting with my administrator I returned to my room to find if full or friends and kids. Some friends from our ward had stopped into see my wife and I. They had a question about an open position at the school so I asked Ms. D (our administrator) to come down to my room and talk to them. We all started visiting.

FAST FORWARD 4 HOURS...

We were still talking when we realized  that all the adults had not eaten. The kids had all eaten at the school's free summer lunch program, but they were starting to get hungry. Well, that led to some plotting and it was decided that we would have a BBQ at our house. We decided to meet up a couple of hours later to allow us time to go to our homes and make our assigned dishes. (and it also meant that I didn't finish what I had set out to work on... and that was perfectly great because I enjoyed visiting VERY MUCH!)

When the party got under way it was very fun. The kids all played well together, the food was fantastic, and the company was even better. We laughed, shared stories, watched crazy youtube videos, teased the kids, and even sang some songs while my wife  accompanied us. The party ended around 11:30am due to the fact that everyone had to be up for some event or other the next day, not to mention the kids were dropping off asleep like flies.

It was a wonderful time and we appreciate our friends very much! :) We need to do that more often with these and other friends as well. Sigh...

I love summer.

My wife and I actually went to bed "early" for us. It was before midnight when we were out! Still slept until after 8. Well, I did. My wife was up feeding the baby around 7:00am ish. I think. I don't remember for sure.

After getting up, showered, and ready for the day, I decided that I was simply going to spend today doing what I wanted and really nothing school related. I finished a book (and wanted to start another one, but couldn't find one here at home I wanted to read- ironic I know). So, I have been blogging, watering the flowerbeds, and watching DVD's of Perry Mason. What more could I want today???? :)

Well, I am going to get back to enjoying my day!

Later...

  2. Sounds like a great two days!

I spent yesterday in my room too. I have an enormous amount of work to do before I even get to my lesson plans.

    Enjoy your weekend! =)

  3. You will love having back to school night before school starts. We tried it one year, after school started and the parents all figured the kids are already in school and they know what is going on, so why go. Let's just say after that one try we have never gone back to the after school starts one again.

  4. It sounds like you are moving forward rather quickly. You don't have much longer before needing to have the room ready but I'm sure it will get done when it needs to. Glad you enjoyed an impromptu gathering of friends for a what sounds like a wonderful evening (check your time there - you said it was about 11:30am when ya'll separated - lol). Talk to you soon - E :)
